Nature and territory

Scavi archeologici dall'altoThe particular configuration of Sanzeno’s territory, characterised by the great expanse of land planted with apple trees that extend all the way to the heart of the built-up areas of the three hamlets, lends itself to the presence of promenades and roads that allow the visitor to enjoy its extremely rich and luxuriant nature.
There are many stretches of road and loops that penetrate into the countryside, going as far as to skirt the nearby Santa Giustina Lake, which can be reached from the hamlet of Banco. Here the tourist can walk along a long stretch of road skirting the lake below, and have the chance to admire its sparkle amidst the woods or get a glimpse of its coves while searching for new views and perspectives.
On the other hand, the nature courses in Sanzeno are further enhanced in value because they are also connected to important historic and cultural sites that characterise the district. For example, just think of the charming road embedded in the rock leading to the San Romedio Sanctuary, which surrounds the tourist with nature that in many ways is still uncontaminated.
That is why the Sanzeno municipal administration, in collaboration with those of Romeno and the Autonomous Province of Trento, is embarking on setting up a route extremely filled with atmosphere (called “of the San Romedio gorges”). Starting out from the centre of the hamlet of Sanzeno (where both the Basilica and Casa de Gentili are located) and picking up the trail of an old aqueduct, one enters the middle of the wood to go to the Rhaetian Museum crossing over a wooden gangway, to then penetrate into the rocks leading to the San Romedio Sanctuary (at a height of about 60 m). Rejoining the road downhill after a hike of about two kilometres completes the tour.
The widely varied and enormously appealing route will be completed in 2005, even if the initial stage can already be covered.
